A13 Cruiser Mk IV Tank

Another tank that was verging on obsolescence when issued to the Sharpshooters was the A13.  Though it had been improved with angled turret armour, its performance in France in May 1940 had revealed its weaknesses.

The A13 was armed with a 2-pounder QF gun and powered by a Liberty engine, which was based on an aircraft engine of First World War vintage.

The tanks with which the Sharpshooters were issued were often older, used and worn vehicles which, from a training point of view, could be useful as the frequent break-downs offered plenty of experience with maintenance and repair.
