Captain Tim Hammond - 3/4th County of London Yeomanry (The Sharpshooters)
Tim Hammond joined the regular army’s 5th Royal lnniskilling Dragoon Guards (5DG) in 1950, and served with them in Egypt at a period when there was hostility from the Egyptian government. One evening news came of hostile moves by the Egyptian army. Tim and the other officers, who had been enjoying a good evening in full mess kit, were scrambled into the desert with their regiment to head them off. They were still in their tanks and mess uniforms three days later!
