from the formation of the Corps of Sharpshooters for the Boer War in 1899 to 8 May 1916

The record follows the published version '3rd County of London (Sharpshooters) Imperial Yeomanry' in its coverage of the Boer War and of the Home Service Regiment up to October 1905. Thereafter it continues the Historical Record up to June 1914. It describes mobilisation on 4th August 1914 and continues as a war diary from 5th August. A warning order for overseas service was issued on 9th March 1915 and they embarked at Avonmouth on 13th April disembarking at Alexandria on 27th April. Two squad rons served in Gallipoli from 14th August to 24th November. The diary continues with service in Egypt up to 8 May 1916 when it ceases abruptly with only one third of the bound notebook used. It would appear that the diary was written by the Commandin g Officer, Col A Weston Jarvis, who resigned and left the Regiment on 14 October after disagreements with his Brigadier.
